BELOW ARE OUR RAGDOLL ALTERS
SKYE Blue Point Mitted This is our Ragdoll alter, Skye (Skye's sister, Luna, is below). While Skye's sister has the loving Ragdoll temperment, Skye (very unfortunately), is completely the opposite. Prior to us purchasing both Skye and Luna from a local Ragdoll breeder right here on Long Island, we researched the different cat breeds and quickly chose the Ragdoll because they are absolutely gorgeous cats and very well known for their sweet and docile nature, which is exactly what we were looking for in a cat! We decided to go with a breeder who we THOUGHT was doing the right thing with his breeding program because he is very involved in TICA, so we never thought that we could go wrong by purchasing kittens from him. To make a long story short, Skye has what we call a Jekyll and Hyde personality to him. When he wants to be pet and loved, he will come to us and allow us to pet him for just a few minutes, and when he gets tired of being pet, he will try to bite and scratch us. If anyone goes to pick Skye up, he will try and take a bite out of their arm. On one occasion, a close family member of ours picked Skye up to hold him and she was bitten and scratched all the way up and down her neck by him. When Skye was younger, we contacted his breeder on a few occasions concerning his poor temperment, and were told that sometimes a cat will turn out like that, and that he needs to be "re-trained." We have given Skye absolutely nothing but love, affection and attention since the day we got him, and have tried to "re-train" Skye as his breeder told us to do, but unfortunately to no avail. Even though Skye is the way he is, and we absolutely ADORE him very, very much and have gotten used to his temperment flaw, but we find it so very sad that he is like this! We do not blame Skye for being the way he is...we do, however, blame the breeder who produced him, as well as other Ragdolls with poor and aggressive temperments! We have come to learn by attending many cat shows, and talking to other breeders, that the sad truth of it all is that Skye is not the only Ragdoll with a poor temperment that this particular breeder has produced!!! On at least one occasion, a Ragdoll which this particular breeder had produced was actually disqualified from the show ring by a judge due to its such poor and aggressive behavior! We only wish that when we went to this breeder's home to choose our kittens that we would have asked him to also see and hold Skye and Luna's parents so that we could have personally seen their temperments, as well as their kittens. We also wish that prior to purchasing Skye & Luna that we would have taken the time out to attend a few cat shows so that we could have met and talked with some of the various Ragdoll breeders and would have seen the temperments of the cats that they were showing in the rings! A Ragdoll should NOT aggressively lunge at a judge in the show ring or hiss and growl aggressively at people walking by its show cage, which is what we have witnessed happen at some shows that we've attended! Personally, I would be absolutely mortified if a cat which I produced acted in that manner in the show ring, but I guess there are some breeders (one in particular), who just don't care. We find it very sad that there are some breeders out there who we believe are unfortunately involved with breeding to try and make a few bucks, and not for the true love of the breed. A Ragdoll's temperment SHOULD NOT at all be like this. A Ragdoll should go limp in your arms when you pick them up and not have any nastiness AT ALL!!! We are very disappointed that, even though we absolutely love Skye for who he is, that this breeder would knowingly breed what we believe to be unsocialized Ragdolls with awful temperments! We are VERY THANKFUL that we have found reputable breeders at the shows that we've attended who have a true passion for the Ragdoll breed and who produce Ragdolls from traditional, healthy lines, with the sweet and docile nature which the Ragdoll breed is known for! I can never thank this group of breeders enough for entrusting us with their wonderful Ragdolls for our own breeding program, so that we may strive to produce the finest and healthiest Ragdolls with the most wonderful temperments possible! Update: We have re-homed both Skye and Luna on New Years Eve to our cousin who came to our home for our New Years Eve party, and he was telling us how his cat had just passed away two days before Christmas, and how devastated he was over the loss! We offered him Skye and Luna to keep him company, and we're so very happy he took us up on our offer!!! We're so very happy we were able to place these cats in a very loving home with someone that we know will take great care of them and give them both the love and attention they so deserve! We will always miss these two beautiful cats and they will FOREVER be in our hearts!!!!!
LUNA Blue Lynx Colorpoint Skye's sister, Luna, is a wonderful Ragdoll. She follows me around the whole house, sits next to us on the couch every night, and although she's a bit shy around people she doesn't know, she just loves attention! She's my little baby girl, and we absolutely adore her very much! She sleeps with us in our bed nearly every night, and she loves us playing with her and her toys! It is our undying love for both Skye and Luna, and the Ragdoll breed in general, that we decided to start a very small breeding program of our own to produce the healthiest and friendliest Ragdolls! If you are looking to purchase a Ragdoll, please take the time to research a breeder, go to their cattery and see their cats, see the parents of the kitten that you are interested in, and make sure that the breeder will stand behind the kitten/cat he or she sells to you. If you are at all uncomfortable with a particular breeder, then please go to a different one! Owning a Ragdoll is a long committment to make, and it is very important that you feel comfortable with the breeder that you choose. We feel that a breeder should be willing to take back a kitten/cat at any time if the purchaser is unable to keep it for any reason. This should be stated in the breeder's contract that both you and he/she will sign before taking your little baby(ies) home! OUR HOME
